WARM TEMPERATURES FORCE ANOTHER CLOSURE
Snowbowl Will Wait, Hoping to Reopen

Flagstaff, AZ – March 9, 2007

With the recent warm temperatures, the Arizona Snowbowl will be temporarily closing down Sunday, March 11 at 4:00 PM until sufficient snowfall can reopen the resort. Easter Sunday, April 8, would be the latest they would reopen.

“It’s hard to believe that we will not get snow in March, usually our biggest month for snowfall. This has been an unusual season, as we have not received any big storms of a foot of snow or more. We know that many families planned to stay at home and ski during Spring Break. Hopefully the weather patterns will change and a big storm will arrive, and we’ll reopen for more skiing,” states JR Murray, Snowbowl’s General Manager.

Due to the warm temperatures, their Ski & Ride School will have limited classes for beginner skiers and snowboarders. The snow on the beginner trails has melted.

Snowbowl is continuing their “Afternoon Delight on the Slopes” promotion through Sunday. Afternoon lift tickets, starting at 12:00 PM have been discount to $20 for Adults and $15 for Juniors. Afternoon rental equipment, both skis and snowboards have been discounted to $15.

Snowbowl will be hosting the Grand Canyon State Games this Saturday and Sunday. There will be Giant Slalom races on both days. Registration starts at 8:00 AM both days in the Agassiz Lodge and the event is open to all participants.

There will also be a big sale of winter equipment in the Sport Shops as well as demo equipment from their Rental Department. The merchandize will be drastically reduced.

He continues, “If this winter is a sign of future weather patterns, then our snowmaking proposal makes more sense than ever. We would have been open from early December until now which is the most important period. The demand is higher in the December through February time than in March when the temperatures reach 80 degrees in Phoenix and the 60’s in Flagstaff.”
