TIPS FOR YOUR VERY FIRST DAY ON THE SLOPES...

All Adult Learn to Ski and Snowboard and Ridge Runner and Ridge Rider packages at the Arizona Snowbowl are sold in the Rental Shop (SKIwee packages are in the Children's Center), so you’ll want to go there first (it’s located on the bottom floor of the Hart Prairie Lodge). Then, you’ll head for the Learn to Ski / Snowboard area, located north of the Hart Prairie Chairlift, to meet your instructor and fellow first-timers! Beginner classes start promptly at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM (a special Adult Learn to Ski / Snowboard class will be held at 11:00 AM on weekends and holidays).

We recommend you show up at least 1 hour before your lesson time for mid-week lessons and at least 2 hours before on weekends and holidays; this should get you through the Rental Shop with plenty of time before your lesson.

WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR

With thanks to the editors and publishers of “Fresh Tracks,” produced by the editorial staff of Ski and Skiing magazines, here are some tips. For more information on subscribing to these publications, visit www.skinet.com.

Dress comfortably and in layers. If you can, leave the jeans at home and borrow snow pants from a friend. A ski-type jacket is also a great idea. Please try to avoid wearing cotton clothing. It will get wet quicker and will keep you cold. Here’s a list of other good things to wear or bring with you:

  • A hat (very important)
  • Sunscreen
  • Goggles or sunglasses
  • Long underwear
  • Only one pair of socks
  • A turtleneck and/or neck gaiter — scarves can become loose and get in the way
  • Water-resistant or waterproof mittens or gloves
  • Sweater or polar fleece pullover
  • If possible, do not wear cotton. If you start to sweat, the cotton will keep you cold

REMEBER: TAKE A LESSON!

Don’t let your friends teach you to ski! You wouldn’t let an amateur perform a root canal on you, so why let a friend try to teach you to ski? That’s what professional ski and snowboard instructors are for. Think of ski class as a shortcut to proficiency and fun.

The price of a Learn or Ski or Snowboard program is the same as the lift ticket and rental equipment - take a lesson and learn from our pros.

Children get their own special classes and play time. The Arizona Snowbowl offers special classes for youngsters 12 and under.
